Akshay Kumar has had enough of comedy films. “It’s been six years since I’ve been doing comedy films. Now, I want to get back to action films and reclaim my position as an action star,” says the daredevil actor.

Akki is now geared up for Nikhil Advani’s Made In China, to be produced by Warner Bros Studio, an out and out action film. He wll be seen playing a chef in Bangkok.

“The film will have outstanding action sequences. I will be going back to my roots and my fans will be very happy. It’s been a while since I did some breathtaking action sequences,” says the Khiladi.

For the first time, Hollywood studio Warner Bros will be distributing an Indian film here and abroad. According to Akshay, this proves that the Indian film industry is doing a lot of good work.

Made in China will be co-produced by Rohan Sippy, and will also star model-turned-actor Deepika Padukone. Sridhar Raghavan has written the script, and the music will be composed by Shankar-Eshan-Loy.

Akshay gives his reasons for taking a break from action films. “I think people needed a break, and so did I. I’ve been doing only action films since my debut,” says the actor.

Kumar later did a series of romantic films, before he began his tryst with comedy films. He wants to break the mould again. As he puts it, “People should not think that ‘Akshay ka film hai toh comedy hoga!’ I am capable of doing a variety of roles.”

Recently, Akshay did a commercial for Thumbs Up, which was widely accepted. “I now know people still want to see me in action films.”
One at a time

This year is choc-a-bloc for Kumar. After completing Yash Raj Films’ Tashan, he will soon begin work on Nagesh Kukunoor’s supernatural film, Tasveer.

Early next year, he will start shooting for Made In China, after which there’s Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambaqt Ishq.

Is he over committed? “Not really. I am doing one film at a time, and most of them are from different genres,” he says.
