Chakravyuh’s legal problems!
Delhi: Delhi High Court in a major relief to Chakravyuh film makers granted permission for the film’s controversial ‘Mehengai’ song saying that there is nothing in the song that can be termed derogatory according to the context. The court allowed the release of the film while responding to the suit filed by shoe maker Bata.
The court in the process suspended a single judge bench’s order restraining the release of the song of the yet-to-be released film on a defamation suit filed by shoemaker Bata. The petitioner objected to the use of its name in the lyrics related to inflation.
Film-maker Prakash Jha, who has directed the film, challenged the single-judge order before a division bench of the court. The film is scheduled for release on October 24.The division bench of Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Manmohan Singh said: “We are inclined to stay the operation of the impugned order.”
The song posting the matter for further hearing, said, “The movie raised the burning social issues like disparity in wealth, fight of value and thought…to bring out the public debate. I do not find that in the contextual setting or background of the movie, the song or its stanza is defamatory and prima facie derogatory to Bata.”
The film Chakravyuh, directed by Prakash Jha and produced by Sunil Lulla, is scheduled to be released on October 24 and it stars Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol, Esha Gupta, Manoj Bajpai, Om Puri,Kabir Bedi, Murli Sharma. Sameera Reddy is doing an item song in this movie.
