Shahrukh was the Original choice for Munnabhai
Mumbai: The King Khan SRK as Munnabhai M.B.B.S. is such a laughable idea but it was him precisely who Vidhu Vinod Chopra had in mind while the casting for the film was being done. And indeed if it were not for Shah Rukh’s persistent back pain problems, Chopra would have had his way and SRK would have been our Munnabhai.
As of today, it is quite hard to think of, let alone imagine, even SRK for that matter, stepping into Sanjay Dutt’s shoes. Sanju baba’s portrayal of the endearingly lovable gangster is undoubtedly irreplaceable. It is funny to know therefore that SRK was being considered as the first choice for the lead role of Munna. In fact, Chopra says that Shah Rukh Khan was and has always been his first choice for the lead role in all his films. He went on to add that Shah Rukh was also offered ’3 idiots’ and the to- be- released “Ferrari ki Sawari” when in the initial stages.
However, due to date issues, Shah Rukh could not be a part of these films. It was date then which sealed the deal for Sharman Joshi who bagged the lead role in the latter while “3 idiots” went to another Khan, Aamir. Well well, maybe this is how it was meant to be!
