Mumbai: John Abraham, model turned actor and star was detained in police custody briefly after the Mumbai Sessions court rejected his plea against the earlier verdict given by the Bandra magistrate court in 2010 but is now out on bail as per the Bombay High Court orders.
This is with reference to the 6 year old accident case in which John Abraham who was riding his Hayabusa Motorcycle late night in Khar, Mumbai crashed into 2 youngsters on a cycle, Tanmay Majhi (19) and Shyam Kasbe (22) in April 2006. The bike reportedly skidded and got out of control. John despite his own injuries rushed the 2 victims to a nearby hospital immediately.
The Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bandra had in 2010 convicted John, the accused, of the charges of rash and negligent driving and endangering the lives or personal safety of others. It had sentenced him to 15 days imprisonment and Rs. 15000 fine.
On Friday, the Mumbai Sessions Court upheld this verdict and dismissed the actor’s plea following which immediately John was taken into police custody. The actor’s request for extra time to surrender was also refused by the Sessions Judge N.V. Navkhar.
His lawyers then proceeded to move the High Court where Justice R.C. Chavan gave orders for release of the actor and temporary suspension of the sentence of the lower court. John was asked to pay an amount of Rs.20000 compensation for the bail.
