Freida Pinto’s Indianised avatar in Trishna
Hollywood: Freida Pinto, the girl from Mangalore, who rose to fame with the role of Latika from “Slumdog Millionaire”, is much wanted by the Hollywood directors and producers, rather than in India. So Indian audience never gave her the star-like attention. They always complain, that Freida is working only for the West, and her contribution to Indian cinema is not worth mentioning.
At last, Freida seems to be determined to establish her name amongst the other Indian stars, and so she will be seen in her next movie in a fully desi Indianised role. She is working on “Trishna” directed by Michael Winterbottom. The story is adapted from a novel of Thomas Hardy named “Tess Of The d’Urbervilles”. Freida will be seen in the role of a autorickshaw-walla’s daughter. The story is based on modern India of today.
This film is a tragedy actually. And Pinto’s character will fall in love with the son of a property developer. Michael Winterbottom has also directed the film “A Mighty Heart”. “Trishna” will be released on September this month, and will be premiered at Toronto Film Festival.
Freida’s last film of this year was “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. “Immortals” and “Black Gold” are her forthcoming releases.
