Nicole Faria wins Miss Earth 2010
A 20-year-old fashion model from Bangalore, India was crowned Miss Earth 2010 in the televised pageant held at Vinpearl Land in Nha Trang, Vietnam Saturday night.
Miss India Nicole Faria bested 83 other contestants in the 10th edition of the international beauty pageant which focuses on care and preservation of the environment.
She was crowned by Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos of Brazil.
Earlier, Faria won Miss Talent when she performed a graceful belly dance that combined Oriental and Middle Eastern styles.
She is also set to enter show business as part of her prizes in winning Femina Miss Earth India 2010.
It was the first time that the Miss Earth contest was held outside the Philippines.
Organizers said that the beauty pageant will be held in Vietnam in the next 10 years, on an alternate basis.
Miss Air (1st runner-up) was Miss Ecuador Jennifer Pazmino, followed by Miss Water (2nd runner-up), Miss Thailand Watsaporn Wattanakoon, and Miss Fire (3rd runner-up), Miss Puerto Rico Yeidy Bosques.
Eighty-four contestants took part in the pageant before they were narrowed down to 14 semifinalists.
Those who advanced to the Top 7 were Miss Ecuador Jennifer Pazmiño; Miss India Nicole Faria; Miss Japan Marina Kishira; Miss Puerto Rico Yeidy Bosques; Miss South Africa Nondyebo Dzingwa; Miss Thailand Watsaporn Wattanakoon; and Miss Venezuela Mariángela Bonanni.
