Aamir rejoins Copyright panel
Aamir Khan has rejoined the committee that is looking into a new version of the Copyright Act. He informed the Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal that he was taking back the resignation as an “amendment to Copyright Act is an extremely important process.”
Javed Akhtar and Vishal Bhardwaj met Kapil Sibal and gave him a letter. Javed Akhtar said that said he would be happy if Aamir comes back to the committee. “I never doubted Aamir Khan’s intentions, his objective is the same as us,” said Akhtar.
By “us,” Javed Akhtar refers to the songwriters and other such artists who contribute to a film. The debate is on whether they should get a cut of the profits of a Bollywood film.
The committee is having a look at the government’s amendments to the Copyright Act. For the first time, it will provide royalties to artists like music directors and composers. The Union Cabinet has approved the changes, as the new act is proposed to be introduced in the next session of Parliament.
