Piggy Chops creates a record in world cinema
Priyanka Chopra is going great guns. After flooring the audience and critics alike with her exemplary performance (and perfect Marathi accent) in recently released Kaminey, Priyanka’s next film What’s your Rashee? will see her in 12 different avatars, each based on the 12 different zodiac signs.
In Naya Din Nayi Raat (1974) yesteryear actor Sanjeev Kumar reprised the nine-role epic performance by Sivaji Ganesan in Navarathiri (1964), which was also previously reprised by Akkineni Nageswara Rao in Navarathri (Telugu 1966). And now, winner of all major awards for the Best Actress category last year, Priyanka Chopra is awaiting the release of her latest film where she has enacted 12 different roles – all being Gujarati girl of similar age.
“I don’t think any other actor in world cinema has portrayed so many characters in one film on–screen,” says an excited Priyanka.
‘What’s Your Raashee?’ is Ashutosh Gowariker’s first romantic comedy, based on the Gujarati novel Kimball Ravenswood by Madhu Rye, starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra, and is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Sunita A. Gowariker.
“It was difficult to portray 12 different characters on-screen, but more than that to live upto people’s expectations for doing an Ashutosh Gowarikar film,” quips Priyanka.
“The fact that all the 12 characters are almost the same age, between 18-23, made it all the more difficult. Apart from clothes and hair styles, I have tried my best to portray each character with different body language, voice modulation, accent and my inputs as an actor.” she maintains.
What’s your Rashee? is set to hit the theatres on September 25. Let’s wait and watch to see if Piggy Chops’ 12 different avatars will woo the audience!
