Chandni Chowk To ChinaCritics may have panned the film unanimously, but Chandni Chowk To China has still managed to rake in a respectable earning in its opening run.

The movie, produced by Warner Bros. and Ramesh Sippy, has reportedly grossed Rs. 33 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. But this is only one-third of what officials at Warner Bros. are learnt to be expecting.

Trade analysts say the opening of ‘CC2C’ is way behind the opening that Akshay’s last film Singh Is Kinng got. The movie, released in August last year, had raked in a mammoth Rs. 45 crore in its opening weekend.

It appears that the presence of Akshay Kumar, the crowd-puller, has managed a fairly decent opening for ‘CC2C’, but as people read reviews and pass on the word of mouth, the movie’s earnings will dip in the coming days. In fact, several theatres are reporting a decline in ticket sales from Monday morning onward.

Mixed reactions are also coming from overseas market where the film was promoted extensively. In North America alone, ‘CC2C’ released at over 135 screens in more than 50 markets. The movie has so far been drawing the NRI crowd only.

Directed by Nikhil Advani, ‘CC2C’ has been severely panned by critics for its weak and tangled story, shoddy direction, dull music and poor performances by almost everyone in the cast including Akshay, Deepika Padukone, Ranvir Shorey and Mithun Chakraborty.

It would be nothing short of a miracle if the film emerges as a hit.
