Big B blasts Slumdog Millionaire

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has slammed Danny Boyle’s Golden Globe award winning underdog drama ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ for showing India in poor light.
‘If ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ projects India as Third World dirty underbelly developing nation and causes pain and disgust among nationalists and patriots, let it be known that a murky underbelly exists and thrives even in the most developed nations,’ Amitabh said in a posting on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com Wednesday from Paris, France.
‘Its just that the ‘Slumdog Millioanire’ idea authored by an Indian and conceived and cinematically put together by a westerner, gets creative global recognition,’ he added.
The 66-year-old also talked about the changing trend in recognition of Indian cinema.
‘The commercial escapist world of Indian cinema had vociferously battled for years, on the attention paid and the adulation given to the legendary Satyajit Ray… and not a word of appreciation for the entertaining mass-oriented box office blockbusters that were being churned out from Mumbai.
‘Ray portrayed reality. While, the other – escapism, fantasy and incredulous posturing. Unimpressive for Cannes and Berlin and Venice (film festivals),’ he explained.
He further wrote: ‘But look how rapidly all that is changing. Dedicated TV channels running Hindi cinema on prime timings. Premieres at Leicester Square (referring to ‘Chandni Chowk To China’), the home of all Hollywood royalty, thronged by hundreds on the street in cold biting weather.’

1. SunainaPerhaps, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan thinks that all Indians live in the same style and luxury that he enjoys. One should be big-hearted enough to appreciate good work.
2. Nandita singhamitabh bachan is out of touch with the common man.
slumdog was a beautiful movie–congrats to all involved in making the lovely movie.
For Mr Bachan–either you have hopeless taste–praising CCTC– or are just plain jealous.
It must be hard to accept that you are no longer successful–see your recent movies.
By the way,why write a blog and invite comments from the public when you cant take negative ones–a lot of people have said that their truthful comments are moderated and never see the light of day onyour blog.
3. AnveshaaYour blog falsely gives the impression that you are loved by all–thats most certainly not the case.Be a man and publish all comments to your blog–good or bad.You definitely get your say–let others get theirs too.
If Mr. Amitabh Bachchan is rich, that does not mean that everyone can afford the same lifestyle.
4. padma menonWhwtever is shown in the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is reality. Many people dont want 2 agree with it but its d truth.
In India (esp Mumbai) u c more of beggers and il-literate people, than educated people.
I fully agree with Mr .Bachchan on the views he expressed regarding Slumdog Millionaire. I doubt a good Indian Director would dare to make a film on the slums of any Western country and expect such a good response
