Sanjay dutt, Manyata get married
Superstar Sanjay Dutt has tied the knot with his girlfriend of two years, Manyata, at the Taj Exotica in Goa on February 7 under the Special Marriage Act with only a few close friends as witnesses.
It’s learnt the two will solemnise their wedding according to Hindu rituals on Monday in Mumbai. “It is scheduled to take place at the house of Manyata’s friend Pradeep at 9.30 am,’’ said a Bollywood insider.
Last month, the 48-year-old Sanjay completed divorce proceedings against ex-wife Rhea Pillai. Before that he had been married to actress Richa Sharma.
A source said, “Two officers from the registrar of marriages in Goa were called to the hotel to solemnise the wedding on February 7. Among the witnesses present were Dharam Oberoi, the CEO of Sanjay Dutt Productions, and Bunty Walia, business manager and close friend of the actor, who had flown down from Mumbai for the marriage.’’ Oberoi, who is Manyata’s god-father, reportedly gave away the bride. Oberoi’s actress-daughter Neha, and Sanjay’s closest friends Ajay alias Bittu and Prashant were the other witnesses.
The sources said the groom was casually dressed in a yellow T-shirt and jeans; and the bride, who is believed to be around 30, glowed in a simple purple tee and trousers.
It’s learnt that Manyata was presented a diamond ring by Dutt worth Rs 40 lakh as wedding gift. “She was spotted wearing sindoor at a function on Saturday. It was the first time, a clear indication of her married status,’’ a source said. The new Mrs Dutt refused comment, but told some reporters her husband would be the best person to answer the question. Sanju back on sets after no-fuss wedding Mumbai: The Dutt family wanted to keep the wedding of actor Sanjay with Manyata a personal affair. So after the wedding, the actor went back on the sets of Kidnap. In fact, the ceremony took place while Sanjay was shooting for Suniel Shetty’s production, EMI, in Goa.
Sanjay is likely to make a public announcement after February 20, when the “marriage certificate’’ from the Goa court will be couriered to him in Mumbai.
It is said the couple has bought very expensive Valentine’s Day gifts for each other. “Manyata has bought Sanju a wrist watch costing around Rs 21 lakh,’’ said a source, adding that the actor has splurged on a jewellery set worth Rs 30 lakh.
Sanjay and Manyata have been seeing each other since October 2006 when they were introduced by a common friend. Manyata has been a pillar of strength for Sanjay through the final phase and verdict of the 1993 blasts trial. Close friends say she has brought a lot of discipline and freshness into Sanjay’s life. “She is his confidante in every way. His career too has been on an upswing (since he met her). He has signed about 22 big films and is booked till 2010. He is a changed man,’’ said the source.
Sanjay is reported to have paid Rhea a few crores as alimony and has transferred a flat in Soona Villa, Perry Cross Road, Bandra, in her name.
In the meantime, Sanjay and Manyata are believed to have struck a deal for a huge plot in Goa and will start building their love nest once the formalities are completed.
Sanjay’s immediate family, sisters Namrata and Priya, a Congress MP, and their husbands were not present at the ceremony in Goa. But they have apparently been invited to the Hindu wedding in Mumbai on Monday.
