Bollywood saves Lakme Fashion Week
On the third day of the week-long Lakme Fashion Week attendance was already thinning and many seats were seen empty. In what could be best described as a disappointing day, it was once again the Bollywood presence that saved it from being a complete disaster.
Hindi cinema’s red-hot star Bipasha Basu took the ramp for designer Narendra Kumar, while John Abraham cheered from the front row.
“Bollywood and fashion have always been together and they are not two different things and the front space is always booked for Bollywood stars,” says Bipasha.
Narendra Kumar’s collection reflected a social theme – freedom from illiteracy. His collections had an interesting mix of alphabetic prints on muted colours.
While on the other hand Falguni and Shane showcased their red carpet theme with women’s wear as their primary focus.
“We only cater to celebrities. This collection was particularly designed to make women beautiful,” Falguni and Shane said.
So, will Mumbai’s fashion week ever make a mark minus Bollywood? Judging purely by the catcalls Bipasha received when she sashayed down the runway, we think not. And to be honest, we’re not complaining either.
