Eklavya goes for Oscars
Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Eklavya – The Royal Guard’ has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars this year. The film was selected above ‘Chak De! India’, the much talked about ‘Gandhi My Father’ and ‘Guru’ by the selection committee and has not left many filmmakers happy with the decision.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra will be going to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the third time. He first went to the Academy in 1980 when his short non-fiction film, ‘An Encounter with Faces’ was one of the first Indian films to be nominated for an Oscar. In 1989, his ‘Parinda’ was sent to the Oscars as India’s official entry. However, neither of these films managed to score at the awards. Will he be lucky this time?
