ShahidShahid Kapoor is only nine films old in Bollywood and to his credit, the actor has managed to carve a niche for himself, albeit, as a lover boy. And after his last film Chup Chup Ke, he will again be seen playing the man in love in Sooraj Barjatya’s next Vivaah. “I have never worked towards creating a certain image. I believe that an actor is only as good as the scripts he’s offered but yes, I am looking forward to doing different kinds of films,” he says.

And as for Vivaah, Shahid believes that Sooraj’s latest film is a different kind of love story. “I don’t think anyone has explored a love story between two people who’re getting into an arranged marriage. I personally think that this is his most sensitive film to date,” he adds.

But given that Sooraj’s last two films — Hum Saath Saath Hain and Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon — didn’t really do that well at the box office, wasn’t he apprenhensive about doing the film? “Not at all, I think he’s a much bigger director than I am an actor. Also, I think it’s wrong to judge a person’s abilities based on the box office success,” he says. And guess what, Shahid’s name in this film is — Prem! Did Shahid not feel at any time that he’s stepping into Salman Khan’s shoes, since the name Prem has been popularised by Salman in Sooraj’s earlier films? “Nothing like that,” answers Shahid, “I have been a fan of Salman in Sooraj’s movies. But each Prem has been a little different and even my Prem will be. My effort is not to break any image but only to do justice to my role,” he adds.
